Jason Sudeikis is reviving Ted Lasso for new Apple TV+ comedy that’ll debut August 14.

The show, called simply, Ted Lasso, centers on a small-time college football coach from Kansas hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite having utterly no experience with soccer.

Ted Lasso is back

If the premise sounds familiar, Sudeikis first played the character in a 2013 commercial to promote English Premier League games on NBC Sports. In a five-minute short, he takes over as the head coach of London’s Tottenham Hotspurs, with hilarious results.

Sudeikis is probably best known for playing Kurt Buckman in Horrible Bosses. And he has a reoccurring role as presidential candidate Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live. He even got to do a comedy bit in The Mandalorian.

The comedian is writing Ted Lasso for Apple TV+, and he also serves as executive producer. Also producing is Bill Lawrence (Scrubs) via his Doozer Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content.

More Apple TV+ comedies

Apple’s streaming video service has focused mostly on dramas so far, but already has some comedies too. Most notably, Central Park, a humorous musical comedy from the creator of Bob’s Burgers, debuted on Apple TV+ Friday, May 29. And Trying, a sitcom about a couple who really want a baby, hit the service May 1.

A subscription to Apple TV+ costs $4.99 a month. Or those who purchase a new Mac, iPhone, Apple TV or iPad get a free year of the service.
