2020 iMac, AirTags and other rumored devices skip WWDC 2020

The 2020 iMac could like a bit like this. The redesigned iMac wasn’t unveiled at WWDC 2020 as had been rumored.
Concept: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

WWDC 2020Although the keynote address for Apple‘s annual developers conference on Monday was chock full of announcements, some much-rumored products didn’t see the light of day.

Despite the rumormill working overtime in the run up to WWDC 2020, there was no hardware presented at all.

2020 iMac was nowhere to be seen

There’ve been rumors for months that Apple has a redesigned 2020 iMac waiting in the wings. And a tip a few weeks ago pointed to the debut being at today’s keynote for WWDC 2020. Obviously, it didn’t happen.

But that doesn’t mean the 2020 iMac is a pipe dream. Trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted on Sunday that this desktop all-in-one will launch in the July-to-September period.

It’s attracted so much attention because the redesign of the 2020 iMac will supposedly be inspired by iPad Pro. That could leave it looking like the Apple Pro Display XDR. It’s allegedly the biggest change to this desktop in many years.

No sign of AirTags or HomePod 2 at WWDC 2020 either

Apple is supposedly working on locator tags dubbed AirTags. These promise to help users locate bags, keys and assorted other valuables. They’ve been rumored for some time, and evidence keeps mounting that they’re on the way. But Apple chose to not announce them at WWDC 2020.

The same goes for the rumored new HomePod. The current one debuted in 2017, and price reductions have been taken to mean Apple is trying to clear out old stock to make room for a new model.

This could be a smaller, more-affordable version of this smart speaker. That’s an oft-requested product, as the current HomePod starts at $299.

Like the iMac, the fact that AirTags and HomePod 2 didn’t debut at WWDC 2020 doesn’t mean they’re not coming out later. Information from multiple sources have pointed to them being in development for many months. They’re as confirmed as any unannounced products can be. They’ll just have to hold onto that status for a while longer.
