We know the Lenovo ThinkPad P15s Gen 1 well, because we have already reviewed it more than once. However, it went by different names. Having mentioned that, the ThinkPad T590, ThinkPad P53s and the ThinkPad T15 Gen 1 have the same design and offer very similar hardware.

This is why our assessment of most aspects remains unchanged: Thanks to its robust housing and comfortable input devices, the ThinkPad P15s is a good professional notebook. However, we would like to see an AMD option, because the Intel CPUs and Nvidia GPUs that the P15s offers are outdated. Moreover, the cooling system of the ThinkPad P15s is not powerful enough to keep it from overheating. Moreover, we also have to mention the presence of coil whine.

What separates the ThinkPad P15s from the aforementioned ThinkPad laptops is the 4K screen. There were and are other models with UHD displays, but none can hold a candle to the level of brightness that the 2160p panel in the ThinkPad P15s can achieve. This also applies to the ZBook Firefly 15 G7, its direct competitor from HP.

We can only recommend the Lenovo ThinkPad P15s Gen 1 to those who want the following laptop: A low-end workstation with a CAD-capable GPU, which offers the lowest level of performance acceptable in this segment.

There is only a single feature that distinguishes the ThinkPad P15s from the ThinkPad T15 and the ZBook Firefly 15. However, we expect that Lenovo will soon release the ThinkPad P15s Gen 2 with Tiger Lake-based CPUs and the Nvidia Quadro T500. This is why it might be worth it to wait.
