China smartphone vendors focus on differentiation

Leading China-based smartphone vendors have focused on production differentiation to maintain competitiveness in the global market.
Xiaomi in December 2020 launched Mi 11, a smartphone featuring in-display fingerprint recognition.
ZTE unveiled the world’s first smartphone featuring under-display camera in second-half 2020 and will launch new models with such features in 2021, according to industry sources.
Vivo focuses on OIS (optical image stabilization), front-camera selfie, rear-camera zoom lens, and night-scene shooting for its mid-range and flagship smartphone models, the sources indicated.
According to Digitimes Research, Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo were the top-6 smartphone vendors in terms of 2020 global shipments.
