With the Summit E15, MSI offers a 15.6-inch business notebook whose hardware is housed in an elegant, slim, black metal case. A Core i7-1185G7 processor, GeForce GTX 1650 Ti-Max-Q GPU, 16 GB of working memory (dual-channel mode; max. 64 GB), and 1-TB NVMe SSD prepare the laptop for the usual usage scenarios. A positive point: there is space for a second NVMe SSD.
With the Summit E15, MSI delivers a 15.6-inch business notebook with the most current technologies. However, it still does not come close to the established competitors such as the Dell XPS 15 and the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme.
The built-in 80-Wh battery ensures a battery life of 9 to 10 h in practice. The laptop is recharged via a USB-C charger that can be connected to either of the USB Type-C ports (USB 4.0/Thunderbolt 4), so you can also connect an external GPU or docking station while the charger is plugged in.
While the touchscreen (FHD, IPS) offers stable viewing angles, a decent color reproduction, good contrast, and decent color space coverage, the maximum brightness turns out too low. Overall, the display of a 2000-Euro (~$2427) laptop should offer more. In addition, a reflective touchscreen is out of place in a business notebook, since it has a negative effect on the ergonomics. The illuminated keyboard turned out to be suitable for everyday tasks.
MSI still seems to have to work on the cooling system and power consumption. Although there is “only” a ULV processor in the E15, the laptop gets significantly warmer than the competitors that are equipped with 45-Watt CPUs. In addition, MSI gets less battery life from the 80-Wh battery than Lenovo gets from the 80-Wh battery of the ThinkPad X1 Extreme – even though that has a more power-hungry processor onboard.
