Bozoma Saint John, the former head of global consumer marketing for Apple Music, is joining Netflix as its new Chief Marketing Officer, Deadline reports.

Saint John joined Apple with the Beats acquisition in 2014. She left Apple in 2017 to join Uber as its Chief Brand Officer, before jumping to Endeavor to become its CMO.

While her tenure at Apple lasted only a few years, Saint John was a high profile executive during her time there. When she appeared on stage at WWDC — showing off Apple Music’s interface, while getting the crowd to (somewhat awkwardly) clap along to the song “Rapper’s Delight” — she immediately made waves as a woman of color exec among the sea of white male execs.

She was a high enough profile Apple exec that a “power lunch” with Saint John was auctioned off in aid of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation. She also appeared in an Apple ad which aired at the 2016 Emmy Awards.

“I’m thrilled to join Netflix, especially at a time when storytelling is critical to our global, societal well-being,” Saint John said in a statement. “I feel honored to contribute my experience to an already dynamic legacy, and to continue driving engagement in the future.”

Since Saint John left Apple, Apple has entered into the streaming content business with Apple TV+. That theoretically means Bozoma Saint John is now, in her new role, in competition with her former company. (Although Netflix subscriber numbers dwarf those of Apple TV+.) Best of luck in your new role, Bozoma!
