Apple bought the rights to Fireball, a documentary about meteorites co-directed by Werner Herzog and professor Clive Oppenheimer.
The two filmmakers have worked before. Very successfully. They scored an Oscar nomination for Encounters at the End of the World and an Emmy nomination for Into the Inferno.
Their current project, Fireball, will show how shooting stars, meteorites and deep impacts have focused the human imagination on other realms and worlds, and on our past and our future.
Herzog has been directing acclaimed documentaries and movies since the 1960s. Among his best-known works is Grizzly Man. He’s also done some acting, including in The Mandalorian.
Oppenheimer is a Professor of Volcanology at the University of Cambridge. Herzog directed their previous collaborations, with Oppenheimer appearing in the documentaries. In this latest endeavor, both men will co-direct.
Werner Herzog’s Fireball coming right at Apple TV+
Fireball will be an Apple TV+ exclusive. But when it will debut on this streaming service has not yet been announced.
Other documentaries already on this streaming service include The Elephant Queen and Beastie Boys Story. Coming August 14, 2020, is Boys State.
