The wait is finally over and the Blue team has some good news. Intel has unveiled the much-awaited “Tiger Lake” processors. This includes the 11 gen Core i7, i5, and i3 CPUs for slim laptops.
Tiger Lake, as you may know already, is fabbed on Intel’s ‘Willow Cove’ CPU architecture. The new chips (coupled w/ Xe-LP iGPU design) boast significant performance gains. And are touted as the “world’s best processor for thin and light laptops”.
But before, we get into its details, here, take a look at the revamped Intel logo —
True to rumors and leaks, Intel also revealed its new logo and geometric motif signifying a brand new corporate identity. Also, we got to learn about Intel’s Evo “badge”, which is nothing but a class of premium ultraportable laptops meeting certain design (responsiveness and portability) standards and specifications.

So, on with Tiger Lake deets —
Tiger Lake CPUs, Xe iGPUs and Intel Evo
Technically, the Tiger Lake CPUs are classified into UP3 (previously the U-series) and UP4 (previously the Y-series) running at 15W and 7W TDP respectively. The brands can adjust the thermal bandwidth of UP3 between 12W and 28W, while the UP4 can range between 7W to 15W.
However, this difference is pertinent to OEMs only. Consumers need not bother.
Now, of the lot, the quad-core Core i7-1185G7 is the top-end product with a base clock speed of 3GHz and single-core frequency peaking up to 4.3GHz and 4.8GHz respectively. Such scaling is possible thanks to Intel’s 10nm ‘SuperFin’ fabrication process. This also promises improved power efficiency.
The three new Core i7 and two Core i5 variants come equipped with Hyper-Threading and Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics, while the four Core i3 models stick to Intel’s older UHD GPUs.
Intel claims the latest Xe graphics perform better than 90 percent of discrete GPUs found within slim and lite laptops of yesteryear. This could translate to up to 2X higher frame rates in taxing titles at 1080p resolution.

Besides graphics, even the inbuilt-AI capabilities are said to be 2.7X faster than its rivals, in creative use cases such as upscaling photos, blurring backgrounds, and removing noise in video conferences.
Last, but not least, Tiger Lake processors support WiFi 6, USB 4, Thunderbolt 4, internal PCIe 4.0 SSDs, DDR5 RAM, Dolby Vision, AV1 codec, and total memory encryption.
Here’s when you can expect the Tiger Lake goodness to hit the market —
Tiger Lake Availability
Tiger Lake is expected to come within over 150 laptop models from 50 different companies including the likes of Dell, Acer, Lenovo, HP, Samsung, and Asus in many markets across the globe this holiday season.
During the virtual launch event, Intel Executive Vice President and GM, Client Computing Group, Gregory Bryant, extolled Tiger Lake as “the best processor Intel has ever built, the best processor on the market,” and that “it certainly rises above all the imitators”.
