The ThinkPad E15 Gen.2 is a good office laptop, which has a very reasonable price. The somewhat more compact design is a welcome development. However, users will only be able to notice any difference between the second-gen and the first-gen devices in direct comparisons. Because the E15 is an entry-level business notebook, it features a poor selection of ports, which includes an outdated USB 2.0 port.
The display is also rather subpar. The E15 Gen.2 has a matte IPS panel with a passable colour reproduction. However, the screen brightness is very low. 250 cd/m² is often not enough in very bright rooms. Moreover, the display is not accurate enough for professional photo/video editing.
A lot more performance, but still extremely high temperatures: With the Ryzen 7 4700U, the AMD model is much faster, but Lenovo still needs to improve the screen and the cooling.
When compared to the Intel model, the AMD version offers a lot more performance and the integrated Vega 7 graphics chip can keep up with the dedicated Radeon RX 640 GPU. Under load, we would prefer to hear more fan noise, because 60 °C (140 °F) is simply too high for an office notebook.
