Week 48 in review: Poco M3, Redmi Note 9 trio official

Welcome to another week’s recap. The biggest story is the European Parliament’s vote in favor of users’ right to repair. Starting in January, countries like France will begin labeling smartphones, laptops and other electronics with a repairability score of 1 through to 10. This new label will help buyers find a device they’ll be able to easily repair instead of just replace down the line.

Also this week Pocophone announced the Poco M3 with a 6,000mAh battery that can go for days and even charge other devices. The Poco M3 is already on sale in the US for $129, and is hitting Europe on November 30, starting at €149.

Poco took the moment to reiterate that it’s no longer a Xiaomi sub-brand but rather a brand of its own.

Speaking of Xiaomi sub-brands, Redmi brought three smartphones to the Chinese market – the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 9 5G and Redmi Note 9 4G. The 9 Pro starts at CNY1,600 for the base 6/128GB model, the 9 5G at CNY 1,300 for the same configuration and the 9 4G starts at CNY1,000 for the 4/128GB model.

Japanеsе teardown experts Fomalhaut Techno Solutions have estimated the bill of materials for the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro at $373 and $406, respectively. The most expensive component of the two iPhones is the Samsung-made OLED display, estimated at $70 a piece.

The India and China conflict brought new limitations from the Indian government on Chinese import of iPhones, Xiaomi and Oppo devices and 43 Chinese apps, among which AliExpress.

Those were the key stories of the week. The full list is down below. See you in another seven days!
