Black Friday is an obvious time to buy a new phone. You get moderate savings on brand new models that have barely touched shelves, and snip hundreds of pounds off the old guard.
But as this is the phone world, all those oldies are still 2020 mobiles. You’ll find no dated duds below, just high-quality Androids and iPhones we thoroughly recommend. We have price-checked all these deals to make sure you get a bargain. For more categories – laptops, headphones etc – have a joy-scroll around the full WIRED edit of the best Black Friday deals.
£90 off a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro, down to £159: This is one for the bargain hunters. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro has a huge battery, glass front and back, a gaming-series Qualcomm processor, fast charging, solid cameras and a large Full HD screen. All for £160: hard to beat.
£30 off a Pixel 4a, down to £320: Buy the Pixel 4a if you want the best phone camera available for under £500. This is a relatively new phone from a series that rarely gets big discounts. Android in its purest form.
£200 off an Oppo Find X2 Pro, down to £800: £1,200 at launch, £800 less than a year later: you might imagine there’s something wrong with the Find X2 Pro. But it’s one of the best top-end phones of the year. Battery life beats the best Samsungs and the 5x periscope zoom opens up your photography like almost nothing else.
£200 off a OnePlus 8 Pro, down to £700: OnePlus may have released an 8T phone since this one arrived, but the OnePlus 8 Pro is still its best. Buy this one for its superior camera and higher-resolution screen. Only the top-end 256GB, 12GB RAM version is left in stock, but you get a lot of phone for £700.
£30 off a Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite, down to £200: 5G mobile internet, a Full HD screen and glass back for under £200? The Mi 10T Lite is one of the smartest buys of Black Friday 2020. Battery life is great too.
£20 off an iPhone 12 Mini, down to £680 You can’t expect a real price plunge on a new iPhone. £20 off the iPhone 12 Mini is still worth noting. It’s a teeny tiny mobile, unlike most high-quality Androids, but still has an incredibly powerful processor and a pair of excellent 12MP rear cameras. It’s like an iPhone 12, but smaller.
£90 off a Samsung Galaxy S20 5G, down to £610 Very has the best deal on one of the most popular phones of the year, the Galaxy S20. It has a gorgeous curved glass front, a superb Samsung OLED screen and excellent cameras that can shoot video at up to 8K resolution. And yes, it’s better than the Galaxy S20 FE 5G, if you’re wondering.
£100 off a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, down to £500: Samsung released the FE (Fan Edition) S20 family as a lower-cost alternative to the original S20 phones. The cuts aren’t that distressing. These phones have a plastic back rather than a glass one, but the internals are top-quality. You’ll pay £500 for the 4G S20 FE, £600 for the 5G one.
